By: E&P Staff The Milton Caniff biography that R.C. Harvey began working on in the 1980s is due out next month from Fantagraphics Books, according to RCHarvey.com.

Caniff (1907-1988) created the "Terry and the Pirates" and "Steve Canyon" comics, and helped found the National Cartoonists Society and the Newspaper Comics Council.

Harvey's upcoming 950-page hardcover -- which includes comics, sketches, and photos -- is called "Meanwhile...: A Biography of Milton Caniff." It's coming out during the centennial year of Caniff's birth, which Ohio State University's Cartoon Research Library is marking with exhibits and an October festival.

The library, which started in 1977 with Caniff's papers, is underwriting some of the book's production cost, according to EditorialCartoonists.com.
