CCI Upgrades Schibsted Site from NewsDesk to NewsGate

Posted
By: E&P Staff A part of the Schibsted media group, F?drelandsvennen, in Kristiansand, southern Norway, added a new multimedia editorial and pagination solution -- CCI's NewsGate System.

The F?drelandsvennen organization sought a next-generation editorial environment to facilitate continued growth. The new environment encompasses all of F?drelandsvennen's media, including the newspaper, its online version, its television statiion and Internet TV. The new system also is open to other distribution channels, such as mobile news. F?drelandsvennen wanted the editorial desks of all its outlets to work on one system and achieve an efficient media-convergent newsroom.

"We trust that in CCI Europe we have a partner who can help us achieve our goals of one multimedia editorial newsroom. It will probably not be all smooth sailing, but we have a firm belief that we will have the best possible newsroom environment for our requirements once the project has been completed," Production Editor Arne Tr?nnes said in a statement.

Early next year, the implementation's first phase will roll out CCI NewsGate, including two-way integration of the Escenic Web publishing system and the CCI LongTermStorage module. The second phase, in the third quarter of 2008, will implement two-way integration of the Avid broadcast TV system, which F?drelandsvennen has used for two years.

"In substituting our NICA archive with the CCI LongTermStorage module we believe we will get a more elegant and coherent solution with a better integration between the archiving system and the editorial environment," Tr?nnes said.

Supporting 85 concurrent users and replacing a CCI NewsDesk system used since 2001, the NewsGate system will be the first to be implemented on Linux. F?drelandsvennen's NewsDesk system also is a Linux implementation with a good performance and reliability record, according to CCI.
