CNN, MS NOW and Politico expand lawsuit over White House press exclusions

Posted

CNN, MS NOW and Politico have amended their lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging that continued restrictions on presidential press-pool coverage violate their constitutional rights, CNN reports. The filing seeks permanent relief against exclusions the outlets say are based on the administration’s dislike of their reporting.

The outlets say restored White House credentials have not resolved their access problems. According to the amended complaint, CNN has been excluded from all six Air Force One assignments it was scheduled to cover as the television pool network since the Sept. 18 ban. Politico also alleges exclusions from scheduled travel-pool assignments.

The dispute now centers on access to specific reporting locations, including Air Force One and the Oval Office. The outlets argue that once the White House admits selected journalists, it cannot exclude others because of their coverage. The new filing follows an earlier preliminary injunction restoring their broader White House access.
