Colorado Newspaper Lays Off 10

By: Ten people have been laid off by The Fort Collins Coloradoan, including two in the news department, the newspaper reported Wednesday.

The layoffs, which affected every department except advertising, occurred amid an industry struggle against declining readership and advertising revenue.

"The company is not alone as many newspapers nationwide and in Colorado have experienced declining revenue and many have taken steps to make changes to their companies, too," President and Publisher Christine Chin said. "We regret the loss of these positions and the talented people that were a part of our team."

The newspaper will continue to focus on local news in print and online as part of a new format announced some weeks ago, Chin said.

The layoffs are the second round of cuts for the newspaper in the past two years and leave it with 215 employees. The newspaper is owned by Gannett Co. Inc.
