Daily Standard in Celina, Ohio, achieves milestone

Posted

Surviving armed opposition, a devastating fire and bankruptcy, along with the everyday exertion that running a business requires, The Daily Standard celebrated its 175th anniversary on Aug. 4. On the same date in 1848, the predecessor of today’s Daily Standard, The Western Standard, was first set and printed by hand.

The early business changed hands multiple times in the first decade of its creation. In 1854, William L. Blocher sold his share to A.P.J. Snyder. The younger Snyder joined with his older brother S.S. Snyder as business partners and bringing the Standard wholly into Snyder family ownership which it remains today.

Modern conveniences such as electricity have enhanced the product and production over the years, but the Standard is much the same today as it was 175 years ago; written, printed, delivered and owned by members of the community they serve.
