DTI Signs Circ System Deal with Cox

By: E&P Staff Digital Technology International in Springville, Utah, has signed a multimillion-dollar agreement with Cox Media Group to install its DTI Circulation suite of circulation, distribution, marketing, and reporting software at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dayton-based Cox Ohio Publications, Palm Beach (Fla.) Newspapers Inc., and the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman.

The project extends DTI's relationship with Cox, which dates from the early 1990s.

"Implementing DTI Circulation at Cox will enable us to implement best practices across our newspaper properties, realize cost-effective consolidation of operations, and facilitate better business strategies from gaining better business intelligence from a single DTI Circulation system," Gregory Morrison, Vice President and CIO at parent company Cox Enterprises said in a statement.

Representatives from each daily participated in selection of a system for improving circulation management. Each now uses a system from a different supplier. Consolidation will allow Cox to realize competitive advantages in its markets. The new system is expected to make cost-effective improvements in all areas of circulation and distribution, from subscriptions processing, management and renewal to product marketing, billing and delivery.

The changeover "will eliminate hard-to-maintain custom code and moves us another step toward eliminating expensive mainframe platforms found in several CMG locations," said Palm Beach Newspapers Operations Vice President Christopher Caneles.
