By: Jim Rosenberg EidosMedia, Milan, Italy, announced that its M?thode News Planning environment, which allows staff to assign tasks to other users (with automatic notification and task-tracking functions), now has been integrated with Microsoft's Office Outlook application, allowing workflow interactions to extend outside M?thode.

"I can assign a task to a remote user and the task will appear in their Outlook schedule wherever they are on the Internet," Chief System Architect Stefano Delli Ponti said in a statement.

The Outlook task is continually synchronized with the task within M?thode's workflow. Parameters such as priority and comments are constantly updated, and Outlook parameters such as "percentage completion" pass back to M?thode, allowing for monitoring from within the editorial environment.

Separately, EidosMedia's M?thode Portal Server Web content management system is now handling production of the, New York Post's news site, NYPOST.com, which was redesigned for an engaging and streamlined user experience, while maintaining the lively look of the print edition.

Replacing various vendors' proprietary applications, the M?thode platform also handles the NYPOST.com archives, with more than a half-million stories, images and blog posts transferred.

"NYPOST.com involved us from the start in their plans for the redesign of the site," EidosMedia U.S. Marketing Director Steve Ball said in an announcement. The portal server's caching architecture provided for a "dynamic site coupled with excellent performance and scalability," he said.

Staff udates the site on the fly to include the most relevant stories. Site navigation common to all pages allows visitors to drill down to areas of interest and select from a range of multimedia content.

and we made it a point to make full use of it to realize the maximum benefit of our investment,"

Post Digital Media Vice President Chris Shaw cited the server portal's "rich feature set" in facilitating incorporation of photo galleries and such continuously updated content as local news, sports, reader comments, forums and blogs.
