By: Business returned to normal Tuesday at the Peninsula Daily News of Port Angeles, Wash., after a power failure the day before shut down the newspaper's printing press and left staffers in the dark for more than 12 hours.
"Everything's fine. Everything went out on time," said John Brewer, editor and publisher of the daily, which has a circulation of approximately 18,000 covering Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Electricity in the 1972 building failed around 1:45 a.m. Monday, after the morning edition had been printed, Brewer said, noting there were no residual effects.
Failed underground electrical cables beneath the alley behind the building caused the outage.
"The wires that were put in there just sort of died," Brewer said.
Work continued at the newspaper using portable generators while electricians from Port Angeles City Light and Olympic Electric began repairs.
Power was restored around 5:30 p.m. by replacing a transformer fuse, said Dan Mangiantini, the newspaper's production manager.
