Elena Shao joins Graphics at The New York Times

We are excited to announce that Elena Shao is joining the graphics department as a graphics/multimedia editor.

Elena has already published many stories for The New York Times as a reporting fellow for the Climate desk. In just a year, she proved herself to be a nimble reporter with a wide range of skills, including data visualization and mapping. She has published visual stories about the emissions savings of electric pickup trucks, which countries will pay for climate change and the impact of climate change on California forests. She also wrote a story about treated sewage being pumped into a crucial aquifer in Virginia.

Elena graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in journalism. She was the managing editor of news for The Stanford Daily.

Her work has also appeared in CalMatters, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Wall Street Journal and Inside Climate News.

Elena starts in the graphics department on June 5.
