By: Dave Astor Mary Elson today was named managing editor of the content-syndication division of Tribune Media Services. She was previously associate managing editor for features at the Chicago Tribune.

Elson succeeds Eve Becker, who moved to senior editor at TMS. Becker reduced her schedule after returning from maternity leave, and now has different responsibilities at the syndicate.

In her AME position at the Tribune, Elson was responsible for the paper's entertainment coverage, daily "Tempo" features section, Friday events guide, and Sunday TV book. She also played a key role in the launch of Amy Dickinson's "Ask Amy" daily Tribune advice column, which is syndicated by TMS.

Earlier in her Tribune career, Elson worked as deputy metropolitan editor, Chicago bureau chief, writing coach, metropolitan reporter, and "Tempo" staff writer. She has also worked at the St. Petersburg Times, The Dallas Morning News, and other dailies.

"Mary is a highly accomplished newspaper editor with a remarkably broad set of skills," said John Twohey, TMS vice president for editorial and operations, citing Elson's experience with both features and breaking news.
