E&P's Strupp Among Mirror Award Finalists

By: E&P Staff E&P Senior Editor Joe Strupp was among 23 finalists named Monday in the first annual Mirror Awards, which are being presented by Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The new awards honor excellence in media industry reporting.

Strupp, an eight-year E&P staffer, was one of three finalists in the category of "Best Subject-Related Series," for his two-part report on newspapers using the Web, titled "Mixing, Matching and Multi-Media."

The same series was one of three finalists for a Jesse H. Neal Award this year, a top prize for the business press.

Also chosen as finalists in that category were: Andreas Kluth of The Economist, for "Among the Audience: A Survey of New Media"; and Brooks Barnes and Matthew Karnitschnig of The Wall Street Journal, for "Viacom Coverage."

The competition drew 140 entries. Winners will be announced at a luncheon on June 14 at the W New York Hotel. Meredith Vieira, co-anchor of NBC's "Today" show, will serve as emcee of the awards luncheon. Peter Bart, editor-in-chief of Variety, will receive the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award.
