By: E&P Staff An early morning fire yesterday at the building housing the North Shore News in North Vancouver, British Columbia, completely destroyed the offices of the CanWest Global-owned newspaper.
No one was injured in the blaze, The Vancouver Sun reported in an online article. An employee who was entering the building when the fire alarm sounded, at about 6 a.m., left safely.
The newspaper is published Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. North Shore News General Manager Doug Foot told the Sun that the paper expected to publish Friday because it is printed elsewhere.
"I have no reason to suspect arson or anything like that at this point," he told the Sun.
In an e-mail to E&P, former North Shore News reporter Bob Mackin Jr. said the smoke from the fire could in downtown Vancouver from across Burrard Inlet.
Mackin said the North Shore News is "probably Canada's most profitable, non-daily, English-language newspaper."
"I'm a former reporter with the paper and have many good memories of the building," he said.
