Wonky local news website Capital New York might finally live up to its name following its sale to Politico. And freelance journalists who never got paid for assignments are hoping last month’s purchase means they’ll finally get some, well, capital.
The site, which features insidery stories on politics, development and media, has a small staff of writers and regularly ran articles written by freelancers after its launch in 2010. But payment for those stories — long said to be “in the mail” — might as well have been sent by carrier pigeon.
