By: E&P Staff The Lisa Moore character in "Funky Winkerbean" will die this year, according to an article in the Cleveland Free Times.
In a story line that began
last month, Ohio-based cartoonist Tom Batiuk has shown Lisa dealing with a worsening case of breast cancer.
James Renner's Free Press piece also noted that Batiuk this year will age his "Funky Winkerbean" cast a decade. The cartoonist had previously aged his characters in the early 1990s, turning them from high school students into young adults while introducing a new group of high school students.
"Funky Winkerbean," launched in 1972, appears in more than 400 newspapers via King Features Syndicate.
