By: E&P Staff Goss International of Bolingbrook, Ill., received an order from Gannett Co. for tower additions to the Goss Headliner Offset press lines used for Florida Today and USA Today at its Melbourne, Fla., plant. The towers will be installed by the end of 2005.
"Our current presses had the capacity to run 40 pages with 16 pages of color," said Florida Today Production Director Peter A. Zanmiller. "With the new towers, our presses will now be able to run 56 pages with 40 pages of color." The Uniliner towers also will allow more commercial printing.
The towers will be configured to be selectable for maximum flexibility, allowing color and page capacity to be added to either press. With them, the 80,650-circulation (100,734 Sunday) paper will be able to combine advance runs to provide extra press capacity.
The operation will continue using Goss digital inking and MPCS controls, and because the towers fit within the building footprint, the building requires no modification.
