Gazette publisher Linda Shelton leaves behind legacy of commitment to journalism and Halifax County community

Linda Seamster Shelton, publisher of The Gazette-Virginian (South Boston, Virginia), died Wednesday afternoon, July 26, at the age of 76.

She took over leadership of The Gazette-Virginian in 2010, after the death of her husband, longtime newspaper publisher Keith Shelton.

Upon hearing of Linda’s passing, former Gazette employee Joe Chandler spoke of the impact of Linda’s legacy at The Gazette-Virginian and in the Halifax County community overall. Chandler worked at The Gazette for 43 years as a news and sports reporter, sports editor and photographer before retiring in 2019.
