To journalists at Grand Valley State University’s student newspaper, it was an overreaction, a response that had a chilling effect on freedom of speech.

To GVSU administrators, their response to a Lanthorn editorial criticizing the university’s practice of naming rooms and buildings after donors was appropriate.
