'Hagar' Wins Comics Poll in Texas

By: E&P Staff "Hagar the Horrible" by Chris Browne of King Features Syndicate won a Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram comics poll that drew responses from 3,399 readers.

Finishing second through fifth were "The Family Circus" by Bil and Jeff Keane of King, "B.C." by Johnny Hart of Creators Syndicate, "Bizarro" by Dan Piraro of King, and "Peanuts" reruns by the late Charles Schulz of United Media.

The comic scoring the biggest gain was "Baldo" by Hector Cantu and Carlos Castellanos of Universal Press Syndicate. It jumped to seventh place after finishing "low in the rankings" in the Star-Telegram's 2003 poll.

Two strips suffering large losses since that previous survey were "Blondie," which dropped from 15th to 30th place; and "Beetle Bailey," which plummeted from fifth to 33rd place.
