Halberstam Accident Investigation to Take Another Week

By: Joe Strupp Investigators are not expected to reveal the exact cause of a car accident that took the life of famed journalists and author David Halberstam for at least a week, if not longer, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Chronicle reported today that those investigating the accident, a three-car crash that occurred Monday south of San Francisco, estimate it may take up to a week and a half to find the cause of the incident, in which Halberstam was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a college student who survived.

Investigators are interviewing four witnesses in addition to the drivers involved, police spokeswoman Nicole Acker told the paper. "We're still trying to figure out who had the green light and who didn't," Acker said.

Halberstam, 73, was in a car driven by a first-year graduate journalism student at UC Berkeley when it was broadsided while making a left turn, the paper reported.
