I-Tech Automates 'Columbia Daily Tribune' Color Register

By: E&P Staff Tribune Publishing Co., Columbia, Mo. reports a 30%, or 279-metric-ton, reduction in yearly print paper waste after installing a 24-camera color-register system from I-Tech Technologies, San Jose,Calif. The system enables printers to provide higher quality output and improve efficiency while moving toward "lean and green" manufacturing.

"The waste reduction is a direct result of having to pay less attention to register by virtue of the automated register system," Tribune Publishing Co. General Manager Jack Waters said in a statement. In addition to "significant" overall savings and improved environmental footprint (including paper, ink, energy savings), he added that "crew time optimization is made possible as well."

The company prints the New York Times national edition and the Columbia Daily Tribune, among other titles, on a Goss Universal 45 press.

Established in 2006, I-Tech provides machine vision systems for industrial process automation. Its press-automation products include automated register, ribbon and cutoff alignment controls. The color register automated control system features "nano" register marks, dynamic vector marks, reading on an unsupported web, measurement of every impression, live Internet support and free lamp replacement, remote support and software analysis package.
