imPRESSions Worldwide, Inc. selected for Press Drive upgrade by Press-Enterprise

Posted

Press-Enterprise in Riverside, California, has selected imPRESSions Worldwide of Burlington, Washington, to oversee its Press Drive System retrofit across its GOSS Headliner Offset Presses. The Southern California publisher is owned by Alden Global Capital. This is a significant investment in the future of print by Alden, which is a hedge fund based in Manhattan, New York City. It was founded in 2007 by Randall D. Smith. Its managing director is Heath Freeman and Alden has stakes in hundreds American newspapers.

Dave Gilmore is the vice president of sales for imPRESSions and stated: “Riverside is the last of the Goss double-wide presses standing in SoCal. Think about that for a minute. ... Riverside’s Jon Merendino, Greg Engler and the maintenance staff that moved over from Orange County will have their hands full when the Los Angeles Times printing moves to Riverside in 2024. The DCOS controls will provide a superior and dependable Press drive architecture with versatile functionality. We are honored to be selected and look forward to working with the Press-Enterprise again.”

iW will provide DCOS’s proven drive control system based on non-proprietary components and incorporating EtherCAT Fieldbus design allowing automatic master drive selection and load sharing. The system will provide unparalleled press drive redundancy, uptime and assuring the implementation of future proof design. DCOS offers full remote support; each press drive and master can be accessed remotely.

imPRESSions provides DCOS quality automaton retrofit systems, including automatic registration, ink density control and ribbon control as well. The system is delivered with  superior digital preset, which is the driver behind repeatable make-ready waste savings.

“We selected imPRESSions Worldwide to provide the DCOS Press drive upgrade for our GOSS Headliner Offset Presses,” stated Greg Engler, production director, The Press-Enterprise. “iW thoroughly vetted our application and proposed a Controls solution that best addressed my team’s requirements. I have worked with Tom Loesch’s company in the past and have always been impressed by their professionalism, and ability to properly execute projects, and do what they say they are going to do.”
