Indiana Newspaper Changing Publication Days, Delivery

Posted
By: The Greene County Daily World is changing the days it publishes and how it is delivered to readers in southwestern Indiana.

The newspaper will begin publishing on Saturdays this week and, starting next week, no longer will distribute on Mondays, remaining a newspaper that publishes five days a week. The paper had published Monday through Friday; it now will publish Tuesday through Saturday.

"We're very excited about our new Saturday edition," Publisher Randy List said. "For years we've forced our readers to wait until Monday afternoon to read about basketball and football games on Friday nights. Now, with our Saturday edition, they will know early the next day."

The newspaper of 5,000 subscribers also will be distributed by mail instead of the traditional carriers.

The paper, which had published in the afternoon, will be delivered with subscribers' regular mail service, meaning that most will get the paper earlier in the day, the newspaper said. It also will be on newsstands early in the morning.

Mail delivery will be less expensive for the newspaper and for subscribers. The newspaper had planned to increase the price of home delivery because of rising gasoline prices. With the change to home delivery, the newspaper will no longer use carriers and that increase will be unnecessary.
