Journal Inquirer negotiating purchase by Hearst Media

The Journal Inquirer is nearing completion of a deal that would see the local daily afternoon newspaper acquired by the Hearst Connecticut Media Group.

The deal could close as soon as Saturday, adding the Journal Inquirer to the larger company’s portfolio, which includes the New Haven Register and Stamford Advocate.

The newspaper will retain its name and tabloid format and will continue to serve the readers of north central Connecticut as it has since 1968, Journal Inquirer Managing Editor Neill Ostrout said.
