Judge denies Post-Gazette request to curb picketing

An Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas judge on Monday denied the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s request to curb picketing at a newspaper distribution center on the South Side, saying the paper had “not met any of the prerequisites” necessary to grant an injunction.

The ruling frees members of five Post-Gazette unions, who’ve been on the picket line since October, to continue picketing at Gateway View Plaza on West Carson Street, where some 60 part-time nonunion contractors pick up bundles of newspapers for home delivery twice a week. The order by Judge Mary C. McGinley followed a five-hour hearing in June where video clips showing picket line threats, property damage and altercations that delayed delivery of the newspaper were entered into evidence.
