A superior court judge has awarded $10 million in damages and legal fees to attorneys and a group of newspaper carriers who delivered the San Diego Union-Tribune from 2005 to 2007, when it was owned by the Copley Press.

Judge John S. Meyer ruled Tuesday that the 1,235 carriers, who sued the newspaper for being misclassified as independent contractors instead of employees, are to be paid $4.9 million in damages, up from $3.18 million in June due to unreimbursed expenses.
