Kansas Reporter Ordered to Testify in Murder Case

By: A judge has ordered a Dodge City reporter to testify about information she may have in a murder case.

District Judge Daniel Love ruled Wednesday that Dodge City Daily Globe reporter Claire O'Brien will have to testify at an inquisition about a story she wrote about murder suspect Samuel Bonilla.

Bonilla is charged with shooting two Dodge City men over Labor Day, killing one and wounding another. In an interview, Bonilla told O'Brien he acted in self-defense. Some of the interview included information from anonymous sources.

Love ruled that the need for information O'Brien might provide outweighed her privilege to protect her confidential sources.

Daily Globe Publisher Darrel Adams says he'll consult with the newspaper's lawyers before deciding whether to appeal the ruling.
