'L.A. Times' Names Managing Editor/Online

By: E&P Staff The Los Angeles Times announced today that Sean Gallagher will be the newspaper's online managing editor, following the successful launch of the paper's redesigned Web site.

In this new role, Gallagher will supervise the latimes.com site as well as the Los Angeles Times Media Group?s growing portfolio of digital properties. He will be working in tandem with Jon Thurber, print managing editor, to further integrate the print and Web versions of the newspaper. Gallagher will be responsible for the multimedia aspect of the newspaper?s coverage and its online news and features as well.

Gallagher joined latimes.com in 2006 as an associate editor, coordinating the news report and overseeing the expansion of the online Health and Business sections. The folloing year, he was appointed the site?s managing editor and oversaw the recent redesign that has won much acclaim from readers and industry analysts.

Before joining the L.A. Times, Gallagher was the Web director of the San Diego Daily Transcript and spent more than five years at nytimes.com. A graduate of Fordham University, he has also worked at the Village Voice as a researcher and at Scholastic Books as a production editor.
