'L.A. Times' Staffers Exit En Masse: 'Peace Out'

Posted
By: E&P Staff "The staff-wide e-mails have arrived in bunches over the last few days at the Los Angeles Times," James Rainey writes in today's edition of that paper. He then reveals some of the messages from the five dozen departees, including one from Solomon Moore, who covered Iraq: "Peace out."

The exodus, Rainey observes, "has become painfully routine in the newspaper business of late," with fresh additions this week in the latest from the trenches at the San Francisco Chronicle and San Jose Mercury News.

"We all are caught in the greatest upheaval our industry and the institution of journalism has ever faced," Chronicle Managing Editor Robert Rosenthal told the newsroom this week as he tendered his own resignation, as Rainey reports it.

Rainey's full report on the L.A. Times scene is at www.latimes.com.
