Latest Layoffs End NAA's Last Two Tech Jobs

Posted
By: Jim Rosenberg In the Newspaper Association of America's second workforce reduction this year (E&P Online, Nov. 17), 10 jobs were cut from the administrative support, back office and business development departments.

Apparently among positions eliminated were the NAA's last two technology posts -- those of Technology Vice President John Iobst and Technology Applications Vice President Owen Smith, both of whom reported to Randy Bennett, senior vice president, business development (E&P, February 2009).

Neither Bennett nor an association spokesman would identify any of those laid off; neither Iobst nor Smith are now in the NAA staff telephone directory; and neither could immediately be reached elsewhere.

"NAA has moved away from being able to support issues around production, operations, technology," Bennett told E&P. "While there won't be ongoing work related to technology development issues," he said, NAA will retain some "engagement" with the technology and operations side of the newspaper business.
