Locked-Out Workers At "The Blade" Must Call In For Jobs

Posted
By: Joe Strupp The six-month lockout of five unions at The Blade of Toledo, Ohio, may have ended with a recent string of new contracts, but workers who want to return to their jobs need to call in first.

A hotline has been set up for the 215 locked-out employees to call in before coming back, according to WTOL-TV's Web site. The return to work comes as seven of the paper's eight unions approved new contracts last week, including the local Newspaper Guild, the largest bargaining unit. The new deals include numerous salary cuts and the elimination of mandatory staff sizes for several of the locked-out unions

"Some will not come back because they have new jobs," the story explained. "The ones who are coming back will need to call a special hotline that The Blade has set up." Calls must be made before June 13.
