Long Beach Register Adds Sunday Edition

In keeping with its mission to build community, the Long Beach Register is expanding its current Monday through Friday delivery to include a sixth day of the week with the launch of a Sunday Long Beach Register edition.

As of Nov. 24, subscribers will now receive two sections full of in-depth local news and information specific to Long Beach and the surrounding communities of Signal Hill, Lakewood, Cerritos and Artesia. Subscribers will also receive the full Sunday edition of the Orange County Register inside each Sunday Long Beach Register edition as a bundled offering.
 
In all, the bundled Sunday edition of the Long Beach Register will average 10-12 sections and nearly 200 pages. Sunday sections will include: two sections of Main News (Long Beach Register Main News is specific to community/local news and an Orange County Register Main News covering regional, national and world news), LB Varsity, Sports, Commentary, Arts, Varsity Arts, Travel, Business/Wall Street Journal, Real Estate, Comics, Parade Magazine, Jobs and Classifieds.

Adding a Sunday Long Beach Register will give our readers access to even more essential and valued local coverage.”

The Sunday Long Beach Register edition will include an Opinion page within the Main News section. Similar to the Opinion page published on Fridays, the Sunday Opinion page will feature broad readership commentary from local leaders on issues important to Long Beach and surrounding communities. The Sunday edition will also include an Editorial Column expressing the opinion of the Long Beach Register Editorial Board.

Sunday’s second section, LB Varsity, will provide even more coverage of high school and local college sports, with feature stories, game summaries, stats and colorful photos of games occurring Friday night and during the weekend. LB Varsity will also provide coverage to high school arts, featuring students who participate in drama/theater, dance, band and chorus.

Since launching on Aug. 19, the Long Beach Register’s team of 20 journalists has focused coverage and columns around interesting neighborhoods, residents, local businesses, politics, arts and entertainment, food, local education, family life, health, voices (opinion), non-profits, places of worship and events. The paper also regularly invites the community leaders to submit guest columns, stories, photos and event listings by emailing Long Beach Register Community Editor Susan Jacobs at sjacobs@lbregister.com and to submit Letters to the Editor by emailing letters@lbregister.com.

In early October, the Long Beach Register added a third section to the Friday paper called Marketplace, which includes articles and classified advertisements pertaining to jobs, vehicles, real estate and other merchandise.

The Long Beach Register is currently adding additional full-time and freelance staff to support the Sunday edition.
 
Single copies of the Long Beach Register are now available in 755 news racks and retail locations across Long Beach, Signal Hill, Lakewood, Cerritos and Artesia. The total number of single copy locations has expanded by 300 since the Aug. 19 launch.

During the past year, the OC Register has made significant investments to create more value for all subscribers. More than 450 people have been hired across the company, and newsroom staff has increased by 50 percent. The physical size of the Register has also increased by 71 percent, which includes the launch of 26 new sections covering key topics of interest such as business, faith and values, vehicles, fashion, movies, the arts, local universities and varsity sports.

All Long Beach Register subscribers also receive free membership in Register Connect, a subscriber-benefits program that offers free tickets to Angels, Galaxy, Ducks games, as well as free tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific, Sea World, and other local events and concerts.
