By: E&P Staff Longtime Cleveland sportswriter Chuck Heaton, who wrote for The Plain Dealer for 50 years and was a beloved fixture in the city's sports scene, died today of pneumonia at age 90.
Regarded for his fairness and objectivity -- as well as his masterful knowledge of Cleveland sports -- Heaton was inducted into eight halls of fame during his career. In 1980 he received the Pro Football Writers Association award for distinguished reporting, and has a plaque in in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Heaton, also the father of "Everybody Loves Raymond" star Patricia Heaton, is remembered in tributes and a lengthy obit on the newspaper's Web site. Check it out
