Mexican Newspaper Group Buys 70 Kodak Thermal CTP Systems

By: E&P Staff Mexico City-based Organizacion Editorial Mexicana purchased 70 Kodak Trendsetter News platesetters, along with the Kodak Prinergy Evo workflow system and Kodak Thermalnews Gold digital plates.

OEM President and Chairman Mario V?zquez Ra?a, whose company prints 70 newspapers at 35 locations, and owns broadcast outlets and Internet sites, said conversion to digital prepress "with the Kodak platesetters, workflow and digital plates will increase our productivity, improve the quality of our printed products, and cut waste on press."

Jim Langley, Kodak Graphic Communications Group president and Eastman Kodak Co. senior vice president, called the deal "one of the largest orders ever for Kodak thermal CTP devices."

In the highly competitive Mexican newspaper market, "Organizacion Editorial Mexicana is investing in Trendsetter News CTP devices to fuel future growth," Evandro Matteucci, Kodak managing director for northern Latin America, said in a statement.

Five Trendsetter News models range from 60 to more than 240 plates per hour and are available with semiautomatic or fully automated plate loading and unloading. Kodak attributes consistent, repeatable halftone dot structure to the machine-to-machine accuracy of its Squarespot thermal imaging heads and thermal imaging's binary nature.

With run lengths exceeding 200,000 impressions without postbaking, Thermalnews Gold digital plates provide fast imaging, processing and makeready, with clean-working, low-pH, low-consumption developer that reduces processing costs.

Prinergy Evo is a PDF workflow featuring color management, late-stage editing and imposition, and advanced screening options to optimize Trendsetter output.
