'Miami Herald' To Cut 24 Positions

Posted
By: The Miami Herald will eliminate 24 positions companywide and reduce working hours for departments directly related to newspaper production.

The company made the announcement on Wednesday.

The newsroom lost six positions and reduced some hours, but no reporting jobs were affected.

"The move is part of our ongoing effort to ride out this unprecedented period of economic turmoil," publisher David Landsberg wrote in an e-mail to staff. He added that there are signs of improvement on the horizon, but he expects "operating conditions to remain challenging through much of 2010."

The newspaper -- owned by McClatchy Co.-- earlier this year cut 175 jobs and stopped distributing its international edition in Latin America and the Caribbean.
