'Newsday' Rejects Ad Critical of Parent Company

Posted
By: E&P Staff Newsday has passed on an ad critical of its new parent Cablevision, reports Richard Sandomir in The New York Times.

The rejected ad, from the Tennis Channel, involves coverage of the U.S. Open. The copy reads, "Thanks for nothing Cablevision. You've dropped the ball by preventing your subscribers from seeing Tennis Channel's round-the-clock coverage of the U.S. Open." The ad encourages consumers to switch to DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, and other Cablevision competitors that carry the Tennis Channel.

According to the New York Times, the ad was accepted in the Times, the New York Post, the Westchester-Rockland Journal News and The Record of Bergen County, N.J.

Executives with Newsday did not respond or declined to comment to the Times.

Cablevision said the ads were "nasty," "unfair" and "misleading."
