NewsWay Workflow Live at Louisiana Paper

By: E&P Staff New ProImage, Princeton, N.J., announced that the 35th Gannet site to install ProImage NewsWay workflow software has gone live.

The News-Star, Monroe, La., installed browser-based NewsWay to automate its computer-to-plate workflow and provide end-to-end integration, workflow management and production tracking. Newsway offers production tracking, page and plate approval, conferencing and annotation, automated event notification, deadline monitoring and priority scheduling.

Calling the system cost-effective and flexible, and citing soft proofing from RIP data, Star-News Production Director Doug Nobles said in a statement that it increased production efficiency, with fewer mistakes and less plate waste, and provides previously unavailable real-time production information.

NewsWay accepts files from the paper's APT editorial and classified systems, as well as from external systems, from which it creates an edition plan, automates page pairing and imposition, load balances two Harlequin RIPs, and manages output to two Kodak Trendsetter thermal platesetters and several hard-copy proofers, burning appropriate text and furniture onto plates in the process. The software also provides correct file naming and page orientation before sending TIFF files to a Rockwell system for calculation of ink values for each page.

NewsWay also will manage files from a soon-to-be-installed Mactive advertising system.
