'O.C. Register' Picks PBS For Circ System

By: E&P Staff The Orange County (Calif.) Register has chosen MediaPlus Circulation from Publishing Business Systems (PBS) for its new circulation system, the company announced at Nexpo in Dallas.

The 307,205-circulation Orange County Register is the largest of the 28 dailies published by the family-owned Freedom Communications Inc. The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the company's community papers have already adopted PBS' MediaPlus. At the Register, MediaPlus will replace a mainframe-based system.

"MediaPlus Circulation will give our customer service team easy access to all the information they need to quickly respond to customer needs," Larry Riley, the Register's vice president of circulation, said in a statement.

At Nexpo, PBS is previewing iServices Distribution, an online self-service application for distributors and carriers. PBS said the application uses the Internet to allow carriers, distributors, circulation managers and remote employees to send and receive information about routes, deliveries and returns. Users can view and print invoice data, payments, messages on bundles and delivery lists. A single-copy returns feature can be entered from specific locations, with information used to suggest draw changes to reduce waste.

Minneapolis-based PBS also introduced iService Advertiser, an online self-service application for display ad customers, and iServices Mobile, which gives sales representatives real-time and remote access to client and order information.
