By: E&P Staff Ohio State University's Cartoon Research Library (CRL) has introduced the "Opper Project," which uses editorial cartoons to teach history.
The
project offers free lesson plans and other educational resources linked to cartoons. Topics include women's suffrage, the civil rights movement, and more.
In addition to CRL, other entities involved in the project are Ohio State's History Teaching Institute and the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, according to the AAEC's site, EditorialCartoonists.com.
Frederick Burr Opper (1857-1937) created comics such as "Happy Hooligan," and also did editorial cartoons for the Hearst newspaper chain.
