By: E&P Staff Parade magazine's annual "What People Earn" issue is coming this Sunday, with the usual ho-hums and interesting surprises.
Newcomers on the list include actor Steve Carell, who is said to make $9 million -- one milion more than Meryl Streep but less than half what Albert Einstein's estate got ($20 million). Ryan Seacrest made $12 million. But Kiefer Sutherland at $23 million topped them all.
Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks could afford to laugh off all the political criticism she got -- to the tune of earning $15.6 million last year.
Karl Rove's salary was $165,200 -- the exact same figure for Sen. John McCain but less than Rep. Nancy Pelosi's $212,000.
Chad Hurley, the 30-year-old cofounder of YouTube, took home $341 million, Parade says. But that was just $2 million more than the estate of Pablo Picasso took in.
At the other end of the scale are an office manager in Naples ($29,000) and a minister in Pueblo, Colo. ($9000). Parade's online readers can compare themselves to others using Salary.com tools and calculators.
Parade also reveals that 71% of Americans in a poll said the U.S. was on the wrong track, and quotes experts say raises have all gone to the high-salaried employees and that inflation is worse than statistics indicate. Also: average vacation time in the U.S. is 14 days compared to 39 days in France and 29 days in Germany. Think about it.
Some other earnings:
Rachel Ray, the TV chef, $6 million.
Ellen Pompeo, actress, $5 million.
Eva Longoria, actress, $3.5 million.
Tony Dungy, football coach, $5 million.
Sen. John McCain $165,200.
