Paul Colford Named Director of Media Relations for AP

By: E&P Staff Former Newsday and New York Daily News columnist Paul Colford has been appointed the director of media relations for the Associated Press.

Colford, who has worked in the media for over 30 years, has most recently been a columnist and reporter at the Daily News. He will be responsible for AP's external media strategy, policies and plans, and oversee the work of Jack Stokes, manager of media relations, who hadles day-to-day issues as AP spokesman.

"Paul Colford brings to AP an exceptional level of experience and professionalism," said Ellen Hale, AP's vice president and director of Corporate Communications in a statement. "His depth of understanding of news and the media will play a crucial role in AP's mission to safeguard valued news standards."

Among Colford's assignments at the News were the "Hot Copy" media column, as well as other reporting on media issues. He has also covered issues of real estate and development in New York City, including articles about the World Trade Center site.

Colford worked at Newsday and New York Newsday from 1980 to 2000 as an assistant editor features writer and media columnist.

He is the author of an unauthorized biography of radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, and another book about shock jock Howard Stern.
