Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Pushing for More Open Records

Posted
By: The Pennsylvania Newspaper Association wants the public to join its effort to push for a stronger open records law.

Pennsylvania has one of the worst open records laws in the country, according to the newspaper group. The Better Government Association watchdog group ranked Pennsylvania's law 48th-best -- tied with Alaska's.

The newspaper group wants to change the law to make government agencies prove why records should be kept private. The current law forces the public to prove why the records should be made available.

The group has begun a Web log at http://www.passopenrecords.org to help the public get involved.
