PressDisplay Supports Latest Irex Reader

By: E&P Staff NewspaperDirect announced that its PressDisplay online newspaper and magazine kiosk is running on the Irex DR800SG, unveiled today in New York.

To go on sale next month, the 8.1-inch, touch-screen DR800SG will offer multi-mode 3G wireless capabilities and instant access to PressDisplay.com's 1,100-plus full-content digital replicas of newspapers' print editions through the Verizon Wireless network.

An early Irex partner, NewspaperDirect announced last year its PressReader for the Irex 1000 series. The software application comes pre-installed on the devices, allowing users to download PressDisplay.com titles for reading at users' leisure.

The DR800SG provides the same PressReader functionality as for the 1000 series, plus full access to the online PressDisplay.com aggregated publication service.

Unlike the Amazon Kindle, which uses RSS feeds to access limited Web site content (and about 65 newspapers), the Irex device offers access to all PressDisplay.com publications -- more than 1,100 full-content digital editions from 87 countries in 41 languages.

The DR800SG's advanced digital features include smart navigation, graphics and text views, picture galleries, instant translation, commenting andarticle sharing through e-mail, blogs and social networks.

PressDisplay.com also supports PCs, Macs, smartphones, iPhones, the iPod Touch and BlackBerry devices. It also will soon support the Palm Pre according to NewspaperDirect.

Display.com's paid-content business model assures publishers "that they will receive proper compensation for use of their content and complete transparency on how and where their publications are being shared," NewspaperDirect CEO Alex Kroogman said in a statement.
