Report: Bancrofts Finishing Plan to Guard 'WSJ' from Murdoch Meddling

By: E&P Staff The Bancroft family late Tuesday was "putting finishing touches to a series of proposals designed to guard the editorial independence of Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal newspaper should they agree to sell the company they control to Rupert Murdoch?s News Corp.," the Financial Times reports Friday.

This comes as the stock price for Dow Jones fell below Murdoch's bidding price for the first time in over a week.

"Family members, working with their lawyers and financial advisers, were expected to send the proposal to Mr Murdoch on Wednesday, pushing forward negotiations with News Corp over its $5 billion offer," the Financial Times reported.

"However, people familiar with the matter suggested that the negotiations between the two parties over editorial controls could drag on for some time."
