By: E&P Staff An internal report filed by Newsday shows that daily circulation declined 2% to 447,000 copies and Sunday circulation dropped 8.4% to 521,000 copies for the six-month period ending September 2004, according to a story today in the newspaper.
Spokesman Stu Vincent said the numbers are not audited. Newsday, plagued by circ overstatements in the recent past, is still waiting for the official Audit Bureau of Circulation figures for the six-month period ending March 2004 and the 12-month period ending September 2004.
For the 12-month period ending September 2004, internal sources told Newsday that daily circulation (excluding Saturday) slipped 2.4% to 470,000 copies and the Sunday circ fell 7.5% to 531,000 copies.
Newsday General Manager John McKeon told the paper: ?This occurred during a period when Newsday was concentrating its resources on the circulation investigation. It was a transitional period during which we placed our promotional programs on hold. Moreover, we did not yet have our new circulation management team in place.?
