Retired 'Boston Globe' Columnist David Nyhan Dies at 64

By: E&P Staff Former Boston Globe op-ed columnist David Nyhan died yesterday of an apparent heart attack after shoveling snow at his Brookline, Mass., home. He was 64.

The liberal commentator, whose work was distributed by Creators Syndicate, retired from the Globe in 2001. Nyhan spent 32 years there as a reporter, editor, and, starting in 1985, columnist.

After leaving the Globe, he continued to write a twice-weekly column for four newspapers owned by the Eagle-Tribune Co., north of Boston. According to a Globe obituary, Nyhan was scheduled to depart this week for a month-long trip to Sri Lanka to write about a group of nurses and doctors involved in tsunami-relief efforts.
