By: Joe Strupp The San Francisco Chronicle plans to lease out several lower floors of its building along the city's historic Mission Street, the paper reported Wednesday.
A story states that three technology companies have agreed to lease the space as the first steps of a larger plan to create what the developers and city are calling an "innovation incubation hub."
Two of the companies are Hub Bay Area and TechShop, described as "incubators" that will aide start-up companies. The third, Square, is headed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. "It develops technology to enable average people to conduct digital financial transactions, including a small credit card swiping device that connects to the audio jack of smart phones," the story said.
Hub Bay Area and TechShop signed letters of intent for 6,000 square feet and 15,500 square feet, respectively. Square has finalized a lease for 3,200 square feet, the Chronicle reported.
The lease agreements follow Chronicle parent Hearst's 2008 announcement of plans to "explore development scenarios for the newspaper's headquarters and adjacent parcels."
