By: E&P Staff Romona Washington has been named publisher of The News-Sun in Sebring, Fla. She replaces Clarissa Williams, who has been named publisher and general manager of the weekly Oldham (Ky.) Era.
The paper has also named Scott Dressel as the paper's new editor.
Originally from Illinois, Washington began her career in the circulation department with the Avon Park Sun, a weekly forerunner of the Sun-News. After working in advertising, Washington switched to the newsroom, and was named Lifestyles Editor in 1983. The Avon Park Sun merged with the weekly Sebring News in 1988 to become the News-Sun.
Dressel has been at the News-Sun since 1990, when he joined the paper as a sports correspondent.
"I look forward to taking more of a leadership role here at the News-Sun and am thrilled that I will continue to have Romona here to guide me," Dressel told the News-Sun. "We've got a great staff here and these changes will only make it better."
"I have had some wonderful teachers through the years and am very excited about the opportunity to lead this newspaper," Washington told the News-Sun. "We have an excellent staff here with an unbelievable amount of talent and experience. Only great things lie ahead for the News-Sun family, our advertisers and our readers."
