'Springfield News-Leader' Denied Video Footage of Capitol

By: State officials have denied a newspaper?s request to view video surveillance caught by two cameras aimed at the entrance of Gov. Jay Nixon?s office in the Capitol.

The Springfield News-Leader reported Tuesday that the Department of Public Safety upheld the Capitol Police?s refusal to allow the newspaper to view the footage, saying it would compromise security.

The newspaper said it wanted to see footage from the cameras for certain days in June. The request was part of the newspaper?s investigation into whether Nixon?s office played a role in the Department of Natural Resources withholding a report showing high levels of E. Coli bacteria in the Lake of the Ozarks.

Officials in Nixon?s office said the Natural Resources Department kept them in the dark. The department said it withheld the report to avoid hurting tourism.
