Suburban Newspaper Awards Announced

By: E&P Staff The American Press Institute has announced the winners of the Suburban Newspapers of America (SNA) editorial awards.

John Humenik, editor in chief of the Quad City Times in Davenport, Iowa, was named editor of the year, daily newspapers, while Douglas Clement, editor of The Litchfield County Times in New Milford, Conn., was named editor of the year, weekly newspapers.

Lorna Thackeray of the Billings (Mont.) Gazette was named journalist of the year, daily newspapers. Thackeray was praised for her coverage of local issues and thorough investigative work. Dave Greber of Cox Ohio Publishing was named journalist of the year, weekly newspapers. Greber is known for his prolific work, often writing more than six stories a week for the publication.

Second- and third-place awards were given out in the weekly journalist category to Andrew Schroedter of Pioneer Press Newspapers, based in Glenview, Ill., and Kurt Kuban of the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers, outside Detroit.

Editor of the year and journalist of the year winners will be recognized in June at the SNA Editors Conference in Chicago.
