Sun Coast Media Signs for DTI Cloud Solutions

Posted
By: E&P Staff After a year-long review, Sun Coast Media Group Inc., publisher of Florida's Sun Newspapers, has signed an agreement with Digital Technology international to install DTI's ContentPublisher, DTI Lightning and eArchive at its 11 locations. SCMG will use the software in DTI Cloud, the software-as-a-service computing environment hosted on an Internap server bank in Chandler, Ariz.

Based in Venice, SCMG now uses Quark 4 for page layout and MediaSpan NewsEdit for writing stories. It delayed software upgrades until making hardware-investment decisions, which had also delayed upgrades to the group's Macintosh computers for several years, according to SCMG Executive Editor Chris Porter.

As support for the pre-OS X Macs diminished, "it became impossible for our employees to access Web sites, e-mail and other programs essential to day-to-day job functions," Porter said in a statement. "We decided we wanted an integrated newsroom system that would open up possibilities for publishing in print, on Web, and in other current and future technological directions."

Editorial Systems Manager Jim Merchant cited DTI's user-friendly software, ability to interface with other systems in use, and the affordability of cloud computing.
